Utimaco Announces Support for New Microsoft Cryptography Standards

SafeGuard CryptoServer Hardware Security Module to support Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with Cryptography Next Generation standard; Approval by FIPS 201 Evaluation Program received

RSA (Booth 545), San Francisco, US/ Oberursel, Germany, April 9, 2008 / Utimaco – The Data Security Company, today announced upgrades to SafeGuard® CryptoServer hardware security module (HSM). As part of this upgrade, SafeGuard CryptoServer now offers support for Microsoft’s new standard “Cryptography Next Generation” (CNG) and has been approved by the FIPS 201 Evaluation Program. FIPS 201 is required by Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) for agencies implementing identification card projects. SafeGuard CryptoServer is now available to these organizations for their ID card implementations.

In today’s dynamic and collaborative business environment, mission-critical data must be protected against unauthorized access, manipulation or theft. Utimaco’s SafeGuard CryptoServer HSM is a tamperproof hardware security module that securely generates, stores and applies cryptographic keys and certificates during encryption and digital signature processes. It provides maximum protection and helps organizations achieve compliance with internal security requirements and government regulations. SafeGuard CryptoServer seamlessly integrates into customers’ infrastructure and guarantees best-in-class investment protection. By supporting the Windows Server 2008 platform, SafeGuard Cryptoserver is enabling quicker and more efficient access to the security properties of an HSM on the most widely deployed operating systems within corporate data centers and is used to host numerous security-oriented core business functions.

“Windows Server 2008 incorporates a number of new security enhancements including the availability of the latest cryptographic algorithms,” said Julius Sinkevicius, director Windows Server division at Microsoft. “We are ecited to be working with Utimaco to help businesses better protect private keys and extend the security of Microsoft Certificate Services and other Windows applications.”

The security mechanisms of SafeGuard CryptoServer have again been confirmed by passing the FIPS 201 Evaluation Program (EP). FIPS 201 EP has been defined to evaluate and approve products for their use in agencies ID card deployments, as mandated by the "Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors” (Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12, HSPD-12).

“Within the server infrastructure of our customers and partners we see Microsoft operating systems as the leading technology worldwide,” stated Dieter Bong, Product Manager of HSM technologies at Utimaco. “Providing seamless integration into our customers’ infrastructure is key for us. As a result, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to providing customers with consistent, comprehensive and seamless upgrades for existing SafeGuard CryptoServer installations to guarantee best-in-class investment protection.”

The new version of SafeGuard CryptoServer also supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to seamlessly integrate into network management systems to enable remote monitoring and management of the HSM.

The new version of SafeGuard CryptoServer is available now. It forms part of the broad SafeGuard portfolio. More information about SafeGuard CryptoServer as well as image material can be found at http://www.utimaco.com/hsm and www.utimaco.com/picture-pool.
