Hardware Security Modules (HSM)

Securely generate, store and apply cryptographic keys and certificates during encryption and digital signature processes with tamperproof hardware

The Internet has changed from being a pure communications medium to being the central interface for networked business processes. Nowadays, numerous kinds of processes and transactions are controlled and processed electronically. Some of the most common examples in our daily lives include online shopping, payment transactions, data processing in CRM and ERP systems, the establishment of PKI infrastructures, as well as the creation of electronic IDs.

In spite all the advantages, the adoption of optimized electronic business processes also provides new possibilities for theft, espionage and attacks against IT infrastructures. In order to minimize attack possibilities by intruders, important, confidential, and business critical company data is stored and processed in hardware security modules (HSM) to provide protection against manipulation and theft.

A hardware security module (HSM) offers the highest level of security due to its module architecture and offers tamperproof protection against physical attacks as well as attacks targeted towards programming interfaces. This enables the protection of security-relevant information and the safe execution of cryptographic operations within the hardware security module (HSM). Secure operations include the generation, storage and processing of keys and certificates.

With SafeGuard SafeGuard CryptoServer, Utimaco provides hardware security modules (HSM) which are certified in accordance with the highest FIPS standards. The open and unique architecture of SafeGuard CryptoServer enables the device to support all common, standard cryptographic interfaces, as well as the implementation of customer specific requirements.
