Utimaco Celebrates 25th Birthday as Global Leader in Data Security
Breakthrough Products, World Leading Customers and Long History Underscore Reputation as the Top Encryption, Data Leakage Protection Provider
Oberursel, Germany, September 15, 2008 / Utimaco – The Data Security Company, is celebrating its 25th birthday with a look back at major corporate, product and customer milestones that have solidified the company’s reputation as a data security powerhouse. Since it’s founding in 1983, Utimaco has grown to be the recognized leader in security solutions that protect data at rest, data in motion and data in use. Now in its 25th year, the company boasts offices all over the globe, over 300 worldwide employees and a marquee customer roster that spans the vertical spectrum, from retail and manufacturing to healthcare and financial services.
Meeting Contemporary Data Security Needs since Day One
In 1983, Utimaco started to provide PC software for financial accounting and the backup of important files. Driven by increased industry and customer demand, Utimaco strengthened its focus on data security products with the introduction of its signature SafeGuard product line in 1987, offering unprecedented levels of access security at the PC and operating system level, as well as partial encryption of directories and files.
Over the next 20 years, Utimaco continued to develop its breadth of offerings to reflect evolving security needs, including SafeGuard Easy for hard disk encryption, SafeGuard LAN Crypt to protect local networks, SafeGuard PDA to safeguard data on pocket PCs and ultimately, SafeGuard Enterprise, the company’s flagship suite for the central management of data security solution.
Combining DLP and Encryption in 2008
Utimaco kicked off this milestone year with the launch of SafeGuard Enterprise 5.3 in early 2008. Now SafeGuard Enterprise is the only solution on the market that combines encryption and DLP to provide companies with a multi-layered security approach in one suite.
The enthusiastic reception to SafeGuard Enterprise 5.3 solidified Utimaco’s vision as the company and has more than tripled its deployment of customer seats in the second half of its 2007/2008 fiscal year compared to the first half of the same year
With over 70 percent of corporate data residing on endpoints, Utimaco recognized the need for an integrated, cross-platform encryption and DLP solution that would protect thousands of enterprise endpoints and devices. This last year also saw Utimaco introduce a series of new modules coupled with its central management center that offer protection of notebooks and PCs, encryption of removable media and management of 3rd party encryption such as Microsoft Vista Bitlocker™ and data leakage prevention. Future versions of SafeGuard Enterprise software are slated to be introduced during the remainder of the year.
Plaudits from longtime customers, prospects and partners
Many of Utimaco’s long time customers and leading partners are joining Utimaco in its celebration by reflecting on the company’s long history and looking forward to continued successes offering the greatest security solutions on the market.
